Prior to breaking into daytime television in 1991, Laura Wright (née Sisk) was a huge soap fan who read the magazines and was devoted to the ABC line-up. Although she had starred in a few high-school plays in her hometown of Clinton, MD, Wright never imagined that one day she’d be the one profiled in Soap Opera Digest.

After graduating from high school, Wright helped her parents run their family-operated gas station/convenience store during the day and managed a tanning salon at night. In 1990, her older brother, Jeffrey, suggested that Wright try her hand at modeling. Two months later, Wright filmed a local commercial and started taking acting classes. Her teacher sent videotapes of the students to a casting director at LOVING. Wright was flown to New York to test for Ally. The rest, as they say, is history.

The year 1995 was a turning point for Wright. LOVING was canceled and she was one of the few stars the network kept for THE CITY. On the personal front, Wright reconnected with a former boyfriend, John. They went to dinner on June 18, got engaged three week later and were married on October 7 that same year. THE CITY began taping October 9.

Three months after THE CITY went off the air, Wright joined GL.
